Program:

“Dames At Sea” humbly began in 1962 at Café Cino, a 40-seat performance space where coffee and pastries were served. Joe Cino, the owner of the café, was committed to giving a forum to new scripts, and burgeoning playwrights like Lanford Wilson, Terrence McNally, and John Guare were thrilled to have their first works produced there. Robert Dahdah, a director and friend of Cino, discovered a pile of scripts dumped in the back of the café. Cino allowed Dahdah to pick one from the pile to direct, and “Dames At Sea” was set afloat for its first production, starring a 17-year old Bernadette Peters.

Created as a musical spoof of the 1930’s movie musicals, “Dames at Sea” is a musical gem full of comedy, tap dancing and torch songs. This imaginative production tells the story of naïve, fresh-faced Ruby, who becomes the last minute star of a new show just before the theatre is demolished. With a little luck and love, the show must go on…on the deck of a battleship.

The cast features Lindsay Martin, Mara Davi, Lindsay Nickerson, Noah Rivera, Matt Lara, and Jeff Deards.

Ann Sheffield is the scenic designer, Rebecca Guzzi is the costume designer, Debra Lockwood is the lighting designer, Mai Sakai is the hair and make-up designer, and Matt Schleicher is the sound designer.
