This stirring story of one man’s quest
for truth is the most famous of Shakespeare’s tragedies.
Hamlet is a man too smart for his purpose and struggles in
a constant internal battle between reason and passion. Shakespeare
spins a haunting tale of ghosts, love, murder and revenge.
According to The Folger Library General Reader’s Shakespeare
edited by Louis B. Wright, “Of all the plays written
by Shakespeare, Hamlet has enjoyed the greatest popularity.
It was a success when it was first performed, probably about
1600, and it has had constant revivals through the centuries.
The plot of Hamlet comes ultimately from Saxo Grammaticus’
Historia Danica, a twelfth-century chronicle first printed
in Paris in 1514, but Shakespeare did not take his plot directly
from this source. Shakespeare apparently based his play, upon
an older play, which evidently was never printed.”
Directed by Larry Biederman, the cast features Stephen Kline
as Hamlet, Christopher Goss as Claudius, Jarred Kjack as Laertes,
Abby Eiland as Gertrude, Heather Raley as Ophelia, Christopher
Manus as Polonius, Brian Vestal as Horatio, Brad Stanley as
Rosencrantz, Hilary Pingle as Guildenstern, and Gregory Allen
as the Player King and Gravedigger.
Mai Sakai is the set designer, Bruce Goodrich is the costume
designer, Nathan Jones is the lighting designer, Lucy Conley
is the make-up designer, and John Fisher is the sound designer.
