Background:

Ed Graczyk’s nostalgic ensemble piece, Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean first premiered on Broadway in 1981, featuring an all-star cast of Sandy Dennis, Cher, Kathy Bates, Mark Patton, Karen Black and Sudie Bond. The play was later made into a successful movie with the same cast, directed by Robert Altman.

Set in September 1975, Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean features a group of women gathering in an antiquated old dime store to commemorate the 20th anniversary of James Dean’s death. All former members of the James Dean fan club, they meet in Marfa, Texas, not far from the historic shooting location of Dean’ s last movie, Giant. Mona — who was an extra on set, and claims to have birthed a son by Dean — is the enigmatic center of this colorful set of characters. But each has their own secrets to reveal, and an unexpected (and momentarily unrecognized) visitor sets off a series of revelations about the past. With flashbacks to their youth in 1955, Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean paints a vision of small-town America, when life appeared simple, and James Dean was the god of teenagers everywhere.

The cast includes Sammi Smith as Mona; Selin Mehrabian as Juanita; Keelia Flinn as Sissy; Kirsten Kuiken as Joanne; Brian Shaw as Joe; Bethany Mangum as Stella May; and Karen Bombardier as Edna Louise.

Kazuyo Sekiguchi is scenic designer, Monica French is costume designer, Jennifer Komar is lighting designer, Monica Maldonado is makeup designer and sound designer is Ryan Joyner.
