Background:

the paul bailey ensemblethe paul bailey ensemble is an alternative/classical garage band that performs the music of a variety of living and dead composers. Created in June 2002 as d.i.y. forum, they perform works outside the usual and limited channels of art music. Bailey’s new vocal piece, life's too short, is an irreverent look at life, religion and motivational speaking based on the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche and John Sinclair. The ensemble includes, in addition to Bailey (trombone), Bruce Galleo (electric guitar), Eric Hendrickson (piano), Scott McIntosh (clarinet) and Matt Menaged (bass guitar). The program also features members of the LA Master Chorale — Nicole Baker, Sean McDermott and Paul Cummings. "The Paul Bailey Ensemble, with trombonist/composer Bailey at its head, was the party group, fun and brash and ebullient." – OC Register

Real QuietReal Quiet — percussionist David Cossin, cellist Felix Fan and pianist Andrew Russo — is dedicated to creating an exclusive repertoire of hard-edge acoustic and electric music by today's leading composers. Since their debut in 2004 performing Annie Gosfield’s Wild Pitch in New York City, Real Quiet has appeared in the United States, Europe and Asia premiering works by numerous composers. The group’s first commercial recording, Tight Sweater, featured the works of Marc Mellits and was an NPR Pick of the Week. With a growing international presence, Real Quiet recently toured Russia and Taiwan and is part of a joint commissioning project by La Jolla Music Society’s Summerfest and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival to produce four new works by 2009.

“Real Quiet, a trio that offers a surprisingly wide range of timbres seemingly ideal for this music.” — The New York Times.
