Attorney Pat Carroll Becomes Executive Assistant to Cal State Fullerton President Milton A. Gordon
July 30, 2007 :: No. 12
Patrick D. Carroll of Anaheim is transitioning from his role as university counsel to executive assistant to the president of Cal State Fullerton, effective Aug. 1.
Cal State Fullerton President Milton A. Gordon made the appointment.
“Pat will be a real asset to the campus as he moves into this new position as my executive assistant,” said Gordon. “It’s a win–win for the university to have someone with his extensive background and familiarly with the campus, its faculty, staff and administrators, and the California State University system.”
Since 1997, Carroll has served as university counsel for the California State University system, the past five years as on-campus counsel at Cal State Fullerton.
During his tenure at Fullerton, Carroll has advised campus divisions on legal issues and managed litigation, reviewed all construction and real estate-related contracts and agreements, and represented the university at administrative hearings.
He also has routinely worked with the campus’s Office of Human Resources on contract interpretation and employee discipline issues, with academic departments on general issues, as well as with faculty, staff and executive administrators on a wide variety of matters and special projects.
“During my five years at Cal State Fullerton, I have enjoyed working with President Gordon, the vice presidents and many others on campus,” said Carroll, who holds a J.D. from Loyola. “I look forward to expanding my experience and my perspective beyond the role I’ve previously held as on-campus counsel.”
As part of his duties as general counsel for the CSU, Carroll was assigned the specialty area of intellectual property and has prepared handbooks for use by all campuses. He also has made numerous presentations on intellectual property and human resource issues at systemwide conferences.
Prior to joining the CSU, Carroll served for four years as judge pro tem in the Orange County Superior Court. He was in private practice for 17 years and was a partner in the Orange County firm of Menke, Fahrney & Carroll, where he specialized in general business litigation and real estate. He is a member of the California Bar Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
In addition to his campus activities, Carroll serves on the Anaheim Public Utilities Board, Acacia Adult Day Care Center Board of Directors and volunteer advisory board of the Garden Grove Girls and Boys Club. The Anaheim resident also is actively involved as a volunteer with the CSUF Special Games – Kathleen E. Faley Memorial.
