What effects do electrons have on cancer? A Cal State Fullerton assistant professor of physics will discuss research into how electrons play a role in some cancers during a Nov. 15 College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Dean’s Breakfast.

James G. Childers, assistant professor of physics, will speak on “The Physics of Cancer: The Electron — Its Role in the Cause and Improved Treatments of Cancer.”

“Basic experiments on electric charge have been performed since the classical period of ancient Greece,” Childers said. “An increased understanding of electric charge has revolutionized our daily lives. Now the electron stands at the forefront of basic research in nearly every branch of physics. Recent research has highlighted the unexpected role that the electron plays in the onset of radiation-induced cancer.”
