“Recent advances in nanotechnologies have carried the very competitive field of
electronics into a new era,” explained Ionel Tifrea, assistant professor of physics and coordinator of Awschalom’s address, which is part of the college’s Public Open Lecture Series. “Standard semiconductor electronics is based on the precise manipulation of electric charges. The continuous miniaturization of semiconductor devices has led toward chips with features smaller than 6 nanometers (one 13,000th the width of a human hair). Professor Awschalom will discuss the new doors opened to electronics by quantum mechanics.” |
