Eyewitness to War Speaks Dec. 4

What:

Ingrid ShutkinIngrid Shutkin, a World War II survivor, will speak about her wartime experiences as part of the Cal State Fullerton European Studies Society’s “Eyewitness to War” speaker series. Shutkin, a German refugee of Jewish ancestry, fled East Prussia in 1944 when the Russian Army invaded. During her flight, she witnessed Soviet soldiers rape her female family members and kill hundreds of civilians.

Lynn SargeantIn addition to Shutkin’s talk, Lynn M. Sargeant, assistant professor of history, will speak on the cultural history of late Imperial Russia and early Soviet Russia. Sargeant is an expert on the history of refugees and migrants in the 19th and 20th centuries.

When: Dec. 4, 1 p.m.
Where: Cal State Fullerton Pollak Library, Room 360
Why: The goal of the “Eyewitness to War” speaker series is to bring to campus people who experienced wartime in Europe and share their stories along with scholars who are experts on related topics. Shutkin’s talk is the first in the series.
