Conservation commissioner, will deliver a lecture titled “Protecting
Alaska’s Environment —
A Regulator’s View.” |

The talk will cover how state and federal environmental
laws have been applied to Alaska resource development
projects, such as north slope oil and gas, mining,
remediation of World War II contamination, marine transportation
and the Exxon Valdez cleanup. |

A Cal State Fullerton alumnus, Fredriksson (B.A. geography ’74
and M.S. environmental studies ’76) has been serving
as commissioner since 2004. He is a member of the Exxon
Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council. Among his duties and
responsibilities as commissioner, Fredriksson maintains
his interests in environmental damage assessment and
restoration, ecosystem management, and global pollution
transport and climate change issues. |
| Why: |
“It’s important to consider
the ways that we dealt with the cleanup process of Exxon
Valdez so that we will not make the same mistakes if
we ever have another environmental disaster similar to
that,” said Steven Kim, lecturer in environmental
studies. “We should consider the value that we
place on environment versus dollars and cents.” |
