Scheduled campus panelists are Sean R. Hogan,
assistant professor of human services; Janna
Kim, assistant professor of child and adolescent
studies; William D. Marelich, associate
professor of psychology; and Jie W. Weiss,
assistant professor of health science. Davina
C. Ling, assistant professor of economics
and director of the CSUF Center for the Study of Economics
of Aging and Health, will serve as moderator. |
| Why: |
“In the 15-24 year old age group, substantial
social problems, injury and death occur because of
tobacco, alcohol and other drug use, as well as sexual
behaviors that lead to sexually transmitted diseases,
HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancies,” noted Davina
C. Ling, director of the CSUF Center for the Study
of Economics of Aging and Health, citing figures from
the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “It
is crucial that we present a forum that informs young
people, and those who live and work with them, what
the ramifications are of this type of at-risk behavior.” |
| Background: |
The Center for the Study of Economics of Aging and
Health was established at Cal State Fullerton in 2002
to advocate for public discussion on economic policies
and issues related to health and aging; to promote
research on health and aging issues with an emphasis
on grant and contract research; and to foster collaboration
with other organizations to study health policies and
the economics of aging. Housed within the university’s
College of Business and Economics, the center is part
of a campuswide collaborative effort to research and
service the rising health care needs of the population,
as well as to bring attention to issues related to
an aging population. |
