A lecture titled “Chronic Under-Nutrition and the Globalization of Obesity” will be presented by A. Roberto Frisancho, the Arthur A. Thurnau Professor of Anthropology and director of the Center for Human Growth and Development at the University of Michigan. |

Who: |
Frisancho, a biological anthropologist, has been a leading authority on nutrition, health, growth and development for more than three decades. He is author or co-author of more than 100 articles in scientific and medical journals and the author of eight books, including “Evolution and Nutrition: A Biocultural Perspective” (2005) and “Human Adaptation: A Functional Interpretation” (1981).
He will discuss the physiological, cultural, economic and evolutionary reasons why individuals and populations, such as immigrants from the developing nations that have been previously undernourished, are susceptible to becoming overweight. |
