Beginning Monday, April 24, communications students at Cal State Fullerton will launch the 28th annual Communications Week. The week’s events showcase a variety of communications professionals who offer tips on how to succeed in the communications field and describe their own paths to their professions. Most events will be held in the Titan Student Union.
Nearly 100 programs are offered during the week that ends Saturday, April 29, with the National Writers Workshop featuring a slate of speakers, including Pulitzer Prize-winner Thomas French from the St. Petersburg Times, the Oregonian’s Stephen Engelberg, San Jose Mercury News reporter Julia Prodis Sulek and Los Angeles Times columnist Bill Plascke.
On Wednesday, April 26, Henry DiCarlo, a Fullerton alumnus and meteorologist for CBS 2 and KCAL 9 will discuss his career, from 9 -10 a.m.
Among the highlights of the week will be a screening of the HBO film “Walkout” on Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. The film is based on the true story of the 1968 East Los Angeles Chicano student walkout to protest inequalities in the school system. More than 10,000 students participated in this demonstration. At Thursday’s event in the Ruby Gerontology Center, at least three people from the 1968 walkout will be there to describe the experience.
Appearing Tuesday, April 25, will be actor James Lesure from the television show “Las Vegas.” He will discuss the television business at 11:30 a.m. in the Titan Theatre during an interview with Lee Bentley, director of Titan Communications.
Most programs are free of charge. Additional information is available on the Comm Week website at http://comunications.fullerton.edu
