Cal
State Fullerton Assistant Dean
Named Distinguished Educator
Lisa Jones honored
by the Orange County branch of the American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE)
March 30, 2006 :: No. 192
Lisa Jones, assistant
dean of student affairs for Cal State Fullerton’s
College of Engineering and Computer Science, has been honored
by the Orange County branch of the American Society of
Civil Engineers (ASCE) with its Distinguished Educator
Award.
Jones was lauded for her participation in the 2005 Pacific-Southwest
Regional Conference hosted by the CSUF student chapter of
the ASCE. Upon hearing the students were having difficulty
raising the $60,000 needed for the event that involved 17
schools, 700 participants and 12 major events, Jones intervened.
“She provided essential leadership to the chapter in a very critical
time,” said Sonia Nasser, ASCE’s awards nomination chairperson. “Although
it was not in her ‘job description,’ she stepped in to help the
chapter. She convened evening meetings to enable all of the ‘players’ to
meet at once, counseled the officers on strategy and tactics, solicited support
from other campus resources and connected the chapter directly to university
officials who could authorize actions in support of the chapter.”
Jones was recognized at the organization’s annual awards
event held in February. ASCE’s Distinguished Educator
Award is her latest honor since joining the Cal State Fullerton
staff in 2002. The Long Beach resident is the recipient of
an American Society for Engineering Education Best Session
Award for her presentation on the challenges of cooperative
education, and last year won the university’s Outstanding
Staff Employee Award.
