CSUF Celebrates Women's History Month

Women's History Month at Cal State Fullerton is celebrated this month with special lectures and conferences. The events are free and open to the public.

March 1, 2:30 p.m., Titan Student Union, Titan Theater: "Catfights and Competition Between Women." Keynote speaker: Leora Tanenbaum, author of "Catfight: Rivalries Among Women."

March 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Titan Student Union, Alvarado Room: Third annual CSUF Faculty Gender Research Conference.

March 6, 11:30 a.m., Pollak Library, Room 130: "Against Forgetting." Speaker: Ji-Li Jiang, author of "Red Scarf Girl." (This is the first in a series of Chinese writers speaking at the Pollak Library through May.)

March 7, noon, University Hall, Room 205: Chatting About "Chica Lit."
Speaker: Mary Castillo, author of "In Between Men" and "Hot Tamara."

March 7, 11:30 a.m., Pollak Library, Room 130: "Code Pink: Women and Dissent in The OC." Speaker: Jacque Lauder, founder of Orange County chapter of Code Pink.

March 8, noon, University Hall, Room 205: "Leadership For Muslim Women: A Civil and Human Rights Issue." Speaker: Kausar Ahmad, owner of KNA Consultants.

March 8, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Intersection of Chapman and Glassell in Orange: "International Women's Day Rally."

March 9, 1 p.m., Pollak Library, Room 103: "Philippine Women and Activism." Speaker: Annalisa Enrile, chairwoman of Gabriela Network.

March 11, 2 p.m., University Hall, Room 205: "Managing Transitions." Speaker: Cassandra Stringer, marriage and family therapist, CSUF Counseling and Psychological Services.

March 14, noon, University Hall, Room 205: "Hungry For More." Speaker: Robyn McGee, author of "Hungry for More: A Keeping-it-Real Guide for Black Women on Weight and Body Image."

March 14, 11:30 p.m., Pollak Library, Room 130: "Understanding the 'Liberated' Patient: Women, Medicine and Feminism." Speaker: Judith A. Houck, assistant professor of history of science at the University of Wisconsin.

March 15, noon, University Hall, Room 205: "On the Bones of Talented Women." Speakers: Nancy Porras-Hein, CSUF assistant professor of Chicana and Chicano studies, and Linda Fraser, CSUF lecturer of marketing.

March 16, 7 p.m., Humanities-Social Sciences Building, Room 226: "Iron Jawed Angels Film Presentation and Discussion." Speaker: Natalie Fousekis, CSUF assistant professor of history.

March 17, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and March 18, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Titan Student Union: CSUF's 36th annual Philosophy Symposium "Intellectual Activism: Women Pushing the Boundaries of Philosophy." The works of philosophers Judith Butler and the late Simone De Beauvoir and Hannah Arendt will be examined.

March 20, 1 p.m., Pollak Library, Room 130: "Transposed Icons." Speaker: Judith McCrea, artist and Art Department chair at the University of Kansas.

March 21, noon, University Hall, Room 205: Gloria De La Torre-Wycoff, CSUF alumna and author of "Scarred By Scandal — Redeemed By Love: The Triumph of an Unmarried Mother."

March 21, 11:30 a.m., Education-Classroom Building, Room 32: "She Was the Queen of the Whole Neighborhood: Hannah Freeman and Indigenous Dissent." Speaker: Dawn Riggs, CSUF assistant professor of history.

March 22: 1 p.m., Titan Student Union: "Ties on a Fence: Women in L.A. Speak Out." Speaker: Corina Gamma, filmmaker.

March 22, noon, University Hall, Room 205: "Eating Disorders Across Cultures and Gender." Speaker: Julie Meisels, CSUF Counseling and Psychological Services.

March 23, noon, University Hall, Room 205: "Help Change the Lives of the Poorest Women in the World." Speaker: Matthew Walters, CSUF International Education and Exchange study abroad adviser.
