"Launch Your Future" During
Engineering and Computer Science Week

Febuary 23, 2006 :: No. 144

What: Cal State Fullerton's College of Engineering and Computer Science hosts "Launch Your Future," a week devoted to stimulating student interest in engineering and computer science through mentorship, networking and hands-on projects based on technical principles.
When: Feb. 27- March 2
Where: Engineering and Computer Science quad and other campus locations
Feb. 27:

Alumni Mentor Luncheon
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Students will have the chance to network with alumni engineers and computer scientists from corporations and government agencies. The event is co-sponsored by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and CSUF's Associated
Students Inc.

Feb. 28:

ECS Student Leadership Day
11 a.m.- 2 p.m.
Rock wall climbing and a cookout are among the activities planned to provide students with opportunities to meet fellow students and faculty members.

           
March 1:

MESA Events
9 a.m.- 3 p.m.
More than 300 high school students will compete in various competitions to showcase their skills in computer science, engineering, math and science. This year, a new trebuchet (catapulting) competition has been added to the program. Other activities include: bridge building, glider flying, Web design, crystal growing and air-powered vehicles. Students will race their "mousetrap cars." Contestants will be judged on how effectively the energy produced by snapping the mousetrap powers the car. An Army ROTC Humvee and helicopter will be displayed on the sports fields.

March 2:

Career Fair
10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Representatives from some 30 companies will be on campus to talk with students and accept resumes for jobs and internships.

NASA Guest Speaker
5:30-6:30 p.m.
Jennifer Marie Rocca, a member of the Deep Impact mission team for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will discuss the NASA Discovery Mission to probe beneath the surface of a comet. Rocca is among 250 scientists, managers and engineers assigned to the Deep Impact team.
