More than 70 industry professionals
will visit Cal State Fullerton April 25-30, when the university’s
College of Communications celebrates its annual professional
development event: Communications Week.
Held each spring, the weeklong event provides
an opportunity for communications students to meet with professionals
in the field, attend lectures and programs, and participate
in a range of activities that will help students develop and
hone their skills.
This year’s speakers include David Ono,
anchor for KABC-TV Channel 7 News; Terry Michael, executive
director of Washington Center for Politics & Journalism;
and Emmy Award-winner Steven J. Cannell, director and producer
of “21 Jump Street.”
Communications Week will kick off with a chalk
competition Monday, April 25. Students will be asked to draw
what communications means in their own lives and how communications
brings people together.
Geno Effler, manager of public relations for
Mercedes Benz/West, will be the keynote speaker of the alumni
luncheon, scheduled for Thursday, April 28, in the Fullerton
Arboretum.
Musical entertainment will be provided by STAR
98.7 Monday, April 25, and by KROQ Tuesday, April 26, in the
Becker Amphitheatre.
Other special events include the Poetry Slam
Tuesday, April 26, and the National Writers Workshop Saturday,
April 30. A photo exhibit will be displayed in the Titan Student
Union’s Center Gallery April 27-30.
