Combining his own money with donations from friends,
Sundstrom this year was able to buy 86 bicycles for
children who have been working hard to earn good grades
in school. Teachers at the two elementary schools choose
the recipients of the bikes, which average about $50
each. Sundstrom earned his bachelor's degree in physical
education from Cal State Fullerton in 1988. His mother,
Gwen Sundstrom, is a CSUF lecturer in kinesiology. |
Quote: |
"As a physical educator, I want kids to be in shape
and have a bike to ride," said Sundstrom,
42, of Placentia. "It's a neat feeling helping others
out. We can all help one another out, and I feel blessed
by God that I have good friends and family members
who take part in this charity." |
More: |
Sundstrom bought six bikes to give away in 2000.
Word spread and people started donating money, making
it possible for him to buy more bikes. In 2001, he
gave away 18. In 2002, the number climbed to 28. He
gave 38 in 2003 and 60 in 2004. |
