Summer Destination for CSUF Educators: China
Program includes visit to Fudan University in Shanghai, Suzhou, Beijing and China's Northwest University.

June 7, 2005 :: No. 231

Cal State Fullerton faculty and staff members are packing their bags and preparing to share experiences, knowledge and skills with their educational counterparts in China.

Seven campus members are headed to China for the June 9-30 Fullerton/China Seminar. This 12th annual program includes visits to Fudan University in Shanghai, to Suzhou, Beijing and China’s Northwest University.

Campus members will take part in seminar discussions on such issues as higher education, foreign policy, urban growth and population management, economics and cultural arts.

This year’s participating educators are: Fullerton residents M. Kiyo Young, clinic secretary in the Cal State Fullerton Speech and Hearing Clinic, and Robert A. Young, associate vice president for academic programs, who will serve as delegation leader; Brea resident Fu-Ming Tao, professor of chemistry and biochemistry; Buena Park resident Andi Stein, assistant professor of communications; Venice residents Carol Anne Ames, lecturer in communications, and Philippe Perebinossoff, assistant professor of radio-TV-film; and Los Angeles resident Pamela Hillman, vice president for university advancement.

Cal State Fullerton has partnership agreements with 49 universities and colleges around the world. Such arrangements involve faculty collaborations on research and projects, faculty and student exchanges or degree offerings. The largest number of agreements — 11 — and the oldest partnerships are with Chinese universities.

Among them is the University of Hong Kong’s School of Professional and Continuing Education, where Cynthia King, associate professor of communications and acting director of the university’s Center for Entertainment and Tourism, is currently teaching a course in tourism as part of the CSUF graduate program in communications established there in 2003.
