The first V.J. Lovero Photojournalism Scholarship will
be awarded to James Carroll, a Cal State Fullerton senior
communications major, at Friday’s Communication
Department’s Awards Banquet. Carroll was selected
from 12 finalists to receive the $1,000 scholarship, which
is funded by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to assist
in educating CSUF students who have shown promise in photography.
It honors the memory of photographer V.J. Lovero, a CSUF
graduate who died last year of cancer at age 44. |
Who: |
Tim Mead, vice president of communications for the Los
Angeles Angels of Anaheim, will present the scholarship
to Carroll, who lives in Fullerton and was born in Orange.
In addition to majoring in communications, Carroll is
minoring in computer science and military science. He
is a photographer for the Daily Titan student newspaper
and a member of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.
He also is active in the Alpha Lambda fraternity. |

VJ Lovero Background: |
Lovero was the team photographer for the Angels and
Mighty Ducks, as well as
staff photographer with Sports Illustrated. During his
career, he produced 35 Sports Illustrated cover photos.
