Background: |
The University Singers have a
long and distinguished reputation as one of the finest
collegiate vocal ensembles in the United States . They
have performed for numerous national choral conventions
and have also made appearances with the Los Angeles
Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Zubin
Mehta and Carlo Maria Giulini, the Pacific Symphony
Orchestra under the baton of Carl St. Clair and the
Boston Pops Orchestra, Keith Lockhart directing.
In addition, the Singers' next off-campus performance will be at the Universal
Amphitheatre on May 16. The concert entitled, "More Friends-Music from FINAL
FANTASY- With Special Guests," is conducted by Grammy award winner Arnie Roth,
and also includes the World Festival Symphony with special appearances by The
Black Mages and additional guest performers.
The Chamber Choir of Cal State Fullerton
is a select chamber ensemble, which in recent years
has become internationally recognized as a premier
collegiate vocal ensemble. They have performed for
numerous choral conventions including the Pacific Southwest
Intercollegiate Association and the American Choral
Directors Association. The group has toured to Italy
and Spain and joined with the University Singers performing
with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Pacific Symphony
Orchestra among others.
John Alexander has served as director
of the two ensembles since 1994. His achievements as
a masterful interpreter of the musical score have been
demonstrated in his 28-year history as artistic director
and conductor one of America 's major professional
choirs, the Pacific Chorale of Southern California.
In addition to his professional conducting career,
Alexander is professor of music and director of choral
studies at California State University , Fullerton. |
