Background: |
Two of Oberlin Conservatory of Music's piano faculty
artists- Angela Cheng and Alvin
Chow -come to Fullerton to perform in a duo
piano recital. This couple shares a rich background as
students of Menahem Pressler at Indiana University and
Sascha Gorodnitzki at the Juilliard School. Both have
won numerous individual competitions and are active performing
as soloists with orchestras, in chamber recitals and
in this husband and wife duo piano format. The program,
a mix of four hands at one piano and two piano works
comes from the plethora of French four-hand music.
Angela Cheng has appeared as soloist with the Israel Philharmonic,
Boston Pops, Buffalo Philharmonic, and the symphonies of Montreal, Toronto,
Vancouver, Houston, Indianapolis , Syracuse, Utah and Colorado. She collaborates
with chamber ensembles such as the Takacs, Colorado and Vogler quartets. Her
many honors include a Gold Medal at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano
Masters Competition, the Medal of Excellence from the Salzburg Mozarteum and
a Career Development Grant from the Canada Council. Critics have hailed Cheng's
performances for her remarkable technique, tonal beauty and musicianship.
Alvin Chow has appeared as soloist with the National Symphony
Orchestra, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Pan-Asia
Symphony in Hong Kong and the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg. He has won numerous
competitions, such as the MTNA Collegiate Artist Competition and the New York
Piano Teachers Congress International Piano Competition. His many honors include
the prestigious Victor Herbert Prize in piano from the Juilliard School and the
Joseph Battista Memorial Scholarship at Indiana University. Chow has also become
widely known as a chamber musician, performing extensively with his wife, Angela
Cheng, and his twin brother, Alan. |
