Equally at home in a multitude of musical idioms,
trumpeter Allen Vizzutti has visited
35 countries and every state in the union to perform
with a rainbow of artists and ensembles including Chick
Corea, Doc Severinsen, the NBC Tonight Show Band, Chuck
Mangione among others. Allen’s status as an artist
has led to solo performances at the Hollywood Bowl,
Carnegie Hall, Newport Jazz Festival, Banff Center for
the Performing Arts, Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Teton,
Brechenridge, Vail, and Aspen Music Festivals, the Charles
Ives Center and Lincoln Center in New York City.
Vizzutti’s love of expression through composition
in jazz and classical idioms has led to premier performances
by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Budapest Symphony Orchestra,
Tonight Show Band, Royal Philharmonic Of London, London
Symphony, the United States Navy Band and the renowned
Summit Brass among others. The first Tonight Show Band
CD co–produced by Allen and Jeff Tyzik won a Grammy
Award for Best Big Band.
As artist-in-residence, Allen has taught at the Eastman
School of Music, The Banff Center for the Performing
Arts, Kansas State University, West Texas State University,
The Skidmore Jazz Institute and the Trompeten Akademie
of Bremen, Germany. He attended the Eastman School of
Music where he earned his bachelors and masters of music
degrees and a performer’s certificate, a chair
in the Eastman Brass Quintet faculty ensemble, and was
the only wind player ever awarded the Artist’s
Diploma in Eastman’s 85-year history.
He is currently professor of trumpet at the University
of Washington and his “The Allen Vizzutti Trumpet
Method,” (Alfred Music Publishing), has become
a standard for trumpet study worldwide.

The University Wind Ensemble, directed
by Mitchell Fennell, acclaimed for its broad repertoire
and excellence, regularly performs works ranging from
contemporary chamber literature by composers including
Ticheli, Persichetti and Dello Joio to traditional concert
band music by Sousa and Post. Comprised of the finest
instrumental majors in the Music Department, the ensemble
has been invited to perform throughout the world.
The CSUF Jazz Ensembles, directed
by Chuck Tumlinson, represent some of the finest college
musicians on the west coast. They consistently receives
high scores and acclaim at major west coast jazz festivals,
with Jazz Combo 1 placing first and Jazz Ensemble I
placing second in last year’s Reno Jazz Festival.
The ensemble has appeared as part of invitation only
tributes to Woody Herman and Maynard Ferguson and annually
at Brea Jazz Festival. |
